Lean Project Summary
*
On reflection this project worked well in my opinion, the stores have become tidy and accessible to all staff members. I have been able to get some staff on board with the tally system and will continue to implement the minimum standard going forward. Ideally, I would have liked to try and get all 3 shifts on board but in time I believe most staff members will. With my project being a mostly physical Lean project there wouldn’t be another LEAN tool I would use for this. Furthermore, if I were to start this project again, I would promote my ideas on a small slide and print this out for each shift to read on our staffroom table.
Lean Project Benefits Summary
*
Moving forward I feel confident in using the minimum baseline I have set for the stores and the tally system as a backup. On the other hand, I'm less confident on the full co-operation of all traffic officers but will keep trying to encourage involvement. Finally, moving forward I am confident in applying what I have learnt over these months on future LEAN projects and also in my role as a traffic officer. My future LEAN projects I have thought about are creating a simple plan for a checklist for all stock within a TOV, focusing on items in the cab of the TOV not just the physical kit.

Define
*
Stores are over or under stocked and not monitored by the whole team, the impact on operational capacity and deployment could be affected. Furthermore, I see that an improvement in team input and organization could limit any negative impact on deployment. The problem I see is team communication and there is no baseline minimum standard set.
Measure
*
The baseline created was for levels of stock, a visible inspection of how tidy the stores are and monthly spend.
Analyse
*
The key tool I used was the quad of aims, this helped me establish my core purpose which was to create a tidy, fully stocked stores that has a average monthly spend. The quad if aims also let me identify my stakeholders, deliverables and how I was to measure success. Furthermore, the root cause analysis tool was practicably helpful to identify key issues and where to expand ideas into.
Improve
*
The actions taken involved all the team to contribute to the process and the positives I've taken from this project is that most officers actually got involved. Now after the project we have clean and tidy stores that are fully accessible for all.
Control
*
This project is ongoing as a traffic officers stores are 24/7, so good communication going forward will be key.
Transfer
*
The knowledge I've gained on my first project has given me confidence to achieve good results in new projects going forward. The advice I would give is that however small a change might be it can have a bigger impact than what people think.
